About this list

This directory brings together First Nations, Métis and Inuit museums, cultural centres, longhouses, heritage villages, arts societies, libraries, archives, language and culture organizations, professional associations and cultural funders across Canada. It draws on nation websites, museum and library associations, Indigenous tourism organizations, Parks Canada and news coverage, and was last checked in October 2026.

Categories. Indigenous-run places are governed by a First Nation, Métis or Inuit government, tribal council or Indigenous-led organization. Partnerships are run jointly with a government, university or other partner. Other institutions are museums and galleries with significant Indigenous collections.

Status. Open places welcome visitors, some only in season. Community access means the place mainly serves its own community. Call ahead means hours or visitor access vary, so contact the place before visiting. Many community sites keep limited hours, so checking ahead is always a good idea.
